Testimonials

Here are some comments from the people who are Cook’yn with Mervyn.

“I thought it would be intimidating participating in a cooking class and that it would be difficult to follow. However, Mervyn’s cooking party proved otherwise and I had loads of fun trying my hands at different cooking techniques and learning smart tips! Recipes were easy-to-follow as well. I would definitely be back for more lessons!” - Andrea Goh, Japanese Tempura Party, 03 March 2009

“This one is for all you gentlemen out there. Take cooking classes from Mervyn, nothing says sexy like a man who can whip up gourmet meals (just ask any lady). It’s a great skill to have whether you have already have a lucky lady in your life, you’re looking for one, or just plain enjoy the finer things in life.” - Tilden Wu, Japanese Tempura Party, 03 March 2009

“My wife and I both had an awesome time!!! Indeed it it was more so a party than a class, but one with a productive educational twist. Merv and Amanda proved to be exceptional teachers and hosts. “Not knowing what to expect when I arrived at Mervyn’s and Amanda’s place, I was somewhat relieved when I learned that there would be more tasting than cooking at this session, because I certainly didn’t want to be the one responsible for ruining a fantastic cut of meat just by mishandling it. That said, the class was informative, entertaining (a fun bunch of partycipants definitely helped) and all in all, an excellent way to spend a Saturday afternoon.” – Jamon & Beef partycipant, 23 March 2009

“The battle of the meats class has been fun and informative. We both enjoyed the class.” - Kenny & Tricia, Jamon and Beef Party 23 March 2009

“Just wanted to say thanks for a lovely time. Cookyn that day at the Spanish party was just absolutely great! Being a non-cook but interested to learn, ur lessons came as a gem to me especially as nuggets of valuable info ranging from how to pick a fresh item to cleaning it out or cutting it up to cooking it were all shared! And it was all made out such that cooking was a breeze and not that much hard work after all.” – Cindy, Spanish Cookyn Party, 31 October 2009

“Even after attending 6 sessions of Cooking with Mervyn, the 7th one still leaves me feeling “wow! there’s still new stuff to learn!” It is the following factors made me keep attending CwM classes:
- Mervyn’s humbleness of willingness to teach
- Our gracious extraordinarie hostess, Amanda, with her warm and friendly aptitude
- Their “We’ll never let you go off hungry” motto from them – At every single session, we are totally madly stuffed from the toe to the head
- The absolute freshness of the ingredients
- The fun-ness of the theme, like which other places you can learn how to do spanish in one class, and japanese in the other?!
- The central location which is such a relaxed environment you feel like you are in your own bubble and the well-equipped kitchen!” – Tiffany Yoong, a regular at Cookyn with Mervyn

“I enjoyed myself very much at our Divisional Teambuilding last week.  Both Mervyn & Amanda made us feel right at home. I would certainly recommend Cookyn with Mervyn to others who are looking out for teambonding activities.” – Shirley Cheong, Head, Human Resources, Economic Development Board Teambuilding, 4 December 2009

Easy to prepare
Fun to experience
Great with friends
Makes you want to come back for a second, third and further helping, and
never leaves a sour taste in your mouth!” – Clifford Wong, Clan Toreador Vampire Crew, 5 December 2009

“Cookyn with Mervyn is better than going to the best five star restaurant in Singapore and equally as affordable. It is an experience that can be shared with both close friends and new ones as well. The food is superb, the insight is invaluable and the environment is warm and friendly. Mervyn and Amanda are wonderful hosts and I recommend this to anyone who considers themselves a foodie.”  – Devon Wong, Clan Toreador Vampire Crew, 5 December 2009

“Mervyn and Amanda provide a comfortable and easy-going setting where you and your friends can learn how to cook a bunch of fantastic dishes.  The sessions are interactive and very social which makes it extra fun.  Of course, when you’re stuffing your face with delicious food, there’s no time to talk anymore… *hiccup*  I’ve been to two ‘Cookyn with Mervyn’ sessions and we are already planning our next visit to ‘Cookyn with Mervyn’!” – AJ Lee, Clan Toreador Vampire Crew, 5 December 2009

‘This is no ordinary demonstrative cooking class – Our team building session really drew us closer through the interactive activities that came from the cooking: From peeling potatoes and hand-making fresh pasta sheets, to eating and drinking our wonderful creations. There’s something bonding about getting out of the office environment and enjoying good food with your teammates, from creation to consumption!’ – Janice Lee Fang, Brand Manager, adidas Singapore

“Gracious and Warm Hosts … Fun from the word go…. The idea of cooking for a team outing didn’t appeal as much at first, but the second we stepped into what Mervyn and Amanda very fondly call a ‘Cooking Party’ got the all of us excited. It was an amazing blend of culinary tips, fun activities while cooking and above all a great meal that ‘You’ as a participant have created almost from scratch. Kudos to Mervyn for his patience and teaching skills and to Amanda, all I can say is that you bring life to the cooking party.

It was the most fun experience my team had out of all the team building outings we have had so far. We would highly recommend to one and all.” – Divya, Citco 2010

My hen’s party was a blast! Many thanks to Meryvn and Amanda who made the day special with thoughtful games *grins*, fabulous wines and most importantly, a great cooking experience. Cooking class was a breeze with no melted makeup or BBQ smelling hair. The food is OHHHHH SO DELICIOUS that all of us can’t wait to show off what we’ve learnt to our love ones back home! – Rachel, 19 June 2010

‘Thank you for the wonderful event earlier in the afternoon. We all had a lot of fun and I received positive feedback from my team. Many of them are even thinking about bringing their friends for cooking parties.’ – Shelleen Shum, IE Singapore 2010

‘I have been to a number of cooking classes and Cooking with Mervyn is simply the best! I really feel like I going to a good friend’s home for lunch or dinner.  Both Mervyn and Amanda make me feel so welcome with their personal and warm attention.  Mervyn makes cooking seem so simple and best of  all it is delicious as well. Since the Italian class of crab wanton, I have made it for the family and they loved it.  I made mini baguette pizza with the extra crab meat topping for a great snack for the children. YUMMY.’ – Vivian, Italian class, 8 May 2010
